Access to clean water poses a major problem in Africa and Haiti. The only viable water source is a river, but there are several obstacles present. Many women and children have to venture a rigorous trek of up to 10 miles on foot to get this water so many of them only do so once every few weeks. With the lack of necessary infrastructure needed to maintain clean water, the people are at big risk of a cholera outbreak, which is a very deadly disease resulting in a quick death. Drilling several wells around the community will provide an accessible water source for every day uses. Members of the community can use the water to cook, bathe, wash clothes, personal hygiene and boil for drinking. Convenient access to water provides one of the greatest benefits to any community aiming to flourish despite a perilous beginning. |
